This program aims to provide critical repair assistance to financially constrained homeowners, in the Village of Hempstead, contributing to the stabilization of the community and financial wellness of the family.

Funds have been made available through New York State Homes & Community Renewal.

These home improvements are designed to prolong the useful life of each home as well as increase the dwelling’s health, safety, and sustainability. Funding will be used to support critical repairs, including health and safety improvements, correction of code violations, accessibility modifications, environmental remediation, and more.

Funds are available based on need and the individualized requirements of each household that applies. The maximum amount that can be invested in a property is $40,000, though not every home will receive the maximum amount. CDLI attempts to assist as many households as funding will allow. For this program, we intend to serve approximately 110 households.

• Windows & Doors

• Handrails, Stoops, Walkways

• Structural Corrections

• Health & Safety Measures

These improvements help Hempstead homeowners maintain safe, accessible homes whether addressing immediate repair needs or planning to age in place.

As part of the program, a Declaration of Interest will be recorded on the property after project completion, establishing a temporary lien for a set period based on the level of assistance received. This reflects the investment made in the home and includes standard requirements, such as maintaining the property and occupying it as a primary residence. All terms are clearly outlined in advance so homeowners can make informed decisions with confidence.

Application
